Kimi introduces Kuala Lumpur } 12 December '04

[

Currently, I am residing only 20 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur, provided it is without the NOTORIOUS traffic jams. However, I seem to take the city for granted. As you see, it's such a hassle to go into the city. With the hustling and bustling and vehicle fumes, it is a potential health hazard and just enough to get you a migraine.

Despite KL being a concrete jungle, there's actually some beauty in the place in terms of architecture and history. Over here, Kimi will introduce some landmarks.

As with all my black and white pictures, they are developed in the dark room using traditonal photo printing methods such as burning and dodging. I love taking photos using B & W film, because it gives an antique feel to the photos and makes it somewhat sentimental. :)

.01 Sultan Abdul Samad (KL High Court)

It was a fine day and Kimi is sitting against the backdrop of KL high court. I love this photo because it shows a perspective of the Moorish architecture with its circular stairways, and the sky looks fluffy. History of this building can be found in www.jooli.com/dollsville/pg_highcourt.htm

.02 The Muddy Confluence

What's in a name? Kuala Lumpur (Malay words) literally means "Muddy Confluence" in English. Right here, Kimi is sitting on the birthplace of KL, where the two rivers meet (namely the Klang river and the Gombak river). According to historical facts, some Chinese tin miners reached the confluence and disembarked. They found some tin deposits east of the confluence and started a settlement in the 1850s. That was how KL was started. Being a relatively new city, it has seen through its fair share of chaos and fights for independence.

.03 Stop, Look, Walk

Unlike in some cities where cars do slow down for pedestrians, KL drivers are known for their notoriety. Always keep a lookout for moving traffic before you cross the road. (O.o)

.04 Inquisitive Kimi

Kimi is sitting on one of the many roadside stalls in KL. She looks pretty inquisitive at the normal morning street scene.
