Festival of Lights } 30th October '05

As the Festival of Lights draws closer, so did the frenzy of the Night Bazaar in Brickfields (Kuala Lumpur). Crowds of people were busy doing their last minute shopping for clothing, accessories, lamps, decorations and delicious Indian savouries.

Although I do not celebrate Deepavali/Diwali, I love the feeling of basking in this warm night atmosphere, taking shots of Kimi (my doll) among the various stalls.

Deepavali/Diwali literally means a "row of lights". It is a Hindu Festival where lamps are lighted to remove the evil from the face of the Earth.

Hereby, I would like to wish all Hindus a Happy Deepavali/Diwali and may you enjoy this festive season!

.01 Rangoli
Rangoli or Kolam is a tradition in India where patterns are made on the floor with coloured rice powder or coloured chalk. By making these patterns, the Hindus are welcoming Goddess Laxmi (Goddess of Wealth) into their homes.

.02 Flower Garland
Flower Garlands have a significant role in the Indian culture. They are worn on the hair of a lady to symbolise fertiliy and luck. They are also used for religious ceremonies and rituals, Indian weddings and as a form of welcoming guests.

.03 Textile and Embroidery
What I love most about the Indian textile is the amount of beading and embroidery. It just boast of the richness of the culture.

.05 Flower Stall
These are the kind folks who allowed me to abuse their flowers, while taking shots of Kimi. They even gave us suggestions, such as placing Kimi's face in between the flowers.
