Qiu in Cameron Highlands } 6th March '06

Cameron Highlands is a weekend retreat for many people to unwind from the busy city. The cool fresh air and the vast nature allows some reflections. This time my gals get to enjoy their vacation on the highlands with my friends from PhotoMalaysia.

*History*
Cameron Highlands was discovered in 1885 by William Cameron (British) during Malaysia's colonial rule. With its fresh mountain air and clear blue skies, it was a resemblance of the British's hometown.

.01 Old Smoke House
This is one of the pioneer resthouses built during the colonial times, hence the Tudor-style architecture. It has been well-maintained and the surrounding garden has received awards.

The Old Smoke House is one of the pioneer resthouses built during the colonial times. This is a typical relaxing morning in the idyllic location.

In the background, a Japanese painter was painting the Old Smoke House, as a young boy looked on.

.02 Tea Plantation

There are 2 main tea plantations in Cameron Highlands. The location chosen for the following shots is the Boh Tea Plantation. The other scenic tea plantation is the Bharat Plantation. Tea cultivation in Camerons was introduced by the British when they saw opportunity in the fertile slopping terrains.

Qiu waited for sunrise in the Tea Plantation. The sun was not spotted due to the thick low clouds covering the horizon, but it was still a picture-perfect view.

Qiu did her own tea harvesting in the early morning. The morning light shined a fresh blue tint.

She treaded through the thick lucious tea bushes, carrying her harvest for the day.

A light noon breeze as she sits on the log overlooking the tea plantation and the tea workers' cottages.

Another view of the massive lands of luscious green tea bushes in the afternoon.

The first two leaves is known as Pekoe leaves, which are used to brew premium tea.

*Behind the Scenes*

In case you are wondering why my sunrise shot is from one direction, here's why...the rivalry in "booking" the best spots. :D This is my first time bringing 3 dolls on a trip, they are carried in the bamboo-weaved bag which Chiffon was sitting on.

The sun was not spotted as it was covered by thick low clouds.

.03 Mossy Forest
Mossy Forest is one of the scene for Malaysian's film, Puteri Gunung Ledang, which tells of a romance between a legendary figure Hang Tuah and a mythical princess. Some feel that this place looks like one of the scenes for Lord of the Rings too. To me, the mossy forest is my imagination of Enid Blyton's Enchanted Forest.

Sitting Pretty on the moist mossy ground.

She's lost.

Resting after a long hike.

She clinged precariously to the tree trunk.

I just love this shot. :)

Qiu with some wild flowers. Such flowers grows naturally in the mossy forest.

Opps, she has left her bag behind. The fabric of this bag is made from tree bark, which gives a natural finish.
