Kellie's castle was one of the sets for Anna and the King, starring Jodie Foster and Chow Yun Fatt. Apparently, the film crew were denied access to film in Thailand because the film was considered derogatory to the Kingdom. So, they had to film in parts at Ipoh and Penang.

Kellie's castle also had a history of its own. It was built by a British plantation owner, who passed away before the castle was finished. His widow didn't like to stay in Ipoh too much because of the humidity. Thus, the castle was never finished.
